Welcome to Radical Zebra

We are currently dedicated to providing the public with a means to access New York's underground jazz scene. Unlike All About Jazz, or any of the other sites out there, we're not trying to aggregate everything there is to know about all music called jazz. This site is concerned primarily with the musicians that are pushing the boundaries of jazz, technically, expressively, conceptualy.

Jazz Calendar

Many of New York's venues, including some of the best ones, tend to intersperse more commercial material throughout the calendar to draw larger audiences. Consequently, knowing where to find the best jazz in NY requires effort and knowledge. To simplify the task, we've created a calendar of the best shows happening in NY on every given night. We've taken into account the artist and, to a lesser degree, the venue and price.

Club Profiles

While we'll go just about anywhere to see most artists we like, we know how important venues are. Clubs concerned only with draw elicit less inspired performances. Clubs like Smalls, that are committed to the art, attract loyal fans and musicans who treat the place with reverence. To help you find your way in NY, we've profiled many of Jazz's venues.
